Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has announced the resignation of Steve Lukan as Executive Director of the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs.
Lukan has held the position for approximately five years. According to a news release from the governor’s office. Lukan is stepping down in order to seek employment in the private sector.
Governor Reynolds has appointed Matthew Peterson, Commandant of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown to serve as Interim Director for the State Veterans Affairs Office.
The governor is currently considering a plan that would allow for all veterans services managed through the State Veterans Affairs Office to be combined with those overseen at the Iowa Veteran Home.
The Iowa Veterans Home sits on a 150 acre campus and has approximately 500 residents. It is the fifth largest veterans home in the country.
The Department of Veterans Affairs currently has offices at Camp Dodge in Johnston.
