The Marshalltown Fire Department was called to a residential house fire in the community on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 2:3 0p.m., the Marshall County 9-1-1 Dispatch Center received a call from an individual of a fire in progress at a home located at 506 South 5th Street in Marshalltown.

When local fire crews arrived on the scene, they discovered a working fire in the kitchen area of the home.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and determined the owners of the home were not inside when the fire broke out.

The fire was contained to the kitchen area, with heat and smoke damage being reported throughout the entire home.

There were no injuries reported.

Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately two hours.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
