The Genealogy Interest Group of the Historical Society of Marshall County will meet Sunday, June 5 at 1:30 p.m. in Room B at the Marshalltown Public Library.
Roxanne Mehlisch of Zearing, a member of the Board of Directors of the Iowa Barn Foundation, will present a program on the significance of early barns in Iowa.
Each barn has an individual history; and sometimes secrets emerge such as finding dates, initials, and names of work horses and milk cows carved in obscure places such as in a feed room or on a hand-hewn beam.
IBF’s primary mission is to educate the public about the importance of Iowa’s barns through the foundation’s magazine and barn tours, as well as raising money to fund restoration grants to save historic barns.
The programs are free and open to the public. Anyone interested in family history research is welcome to attend.
