Two newcomers running on the Republican ticket for Marshall County Supervisor came away with easy victories during Tuesday’s primary election.
Jarret Heil, current Marshall County Treasurer, and Carol Hibbs, Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA Executive Director, claimed the two open positions that were up for election during Tuesday’s primary ahead of three-term Incumbent Dave Thompson. Heil received 1,821 votes while Hibbs tallied 1,657, with Thompson claiming just 1,060 votes in Tuesday’s election. Laurel Mayor Evan Folk finished fourth with just 436 votes.
Linda Von Holton ran unopposed for the position of county supervisor on the Democratic side and now awaits the upcoming November General Election.
For the county treasurer’s position Deann Tomlinson defeated Mark Eaton in a Republican contest by a margin of 1,642 to 934.
Elsewhere, Incumbent Republican County Attorney Jordan Gaffney and Democratic challenger Sarah Tupper both ran unopposed in their respective primaries and will face each other in the November General Election.
The Marshall County Auditor and Recorder’s offices did note some voting equipment jams at some polling locations in the county on Tuesday. As a result, the Marshall County Supervisors will be holding an emergency special session on Wednesday morning, at which time a request for an administrative recount of all final election results is expected to be made,
