The City of Gladbrook will be hosting its “100th Corn Carnival” celebration this weekend with a variety of activities being planned during this year’s four day festival event.

The festivities will kick off Thursday with a Collector’s Fair, a Quilt Show, A Little Miss and Mr. Corn Carnival and a Kiddies Parade.

On Friday, numerous merchant and business exhibits will be on display along the upstairs level  of the City Center, with the Midway carnival getting underway, as well.  The Grand Parade will take place at 6:30 that evening with Gladbrook citizens, past and present to serve as Grand Marshals for the event.

Saturday’s festival will begin with a pancake breakfast on Main Street from 7:30 to 10 a.m.  Other events that day include a tractor ride, a 5K walk/run, cribbage and pepper tournaments, a car show, firemen water ball contests, and a Bill Goat Drop, with an evening fireworks display to cap off the evening.

This year’s festival will conclude on Sunday with an omelet breakfast being served at Peace Church from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A Community Church Service is also planned that day at the Gladbrook City Centre Theater, beginning at 10:30 a.m.  Following the service, a balloon release ceremony will be held in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Gladbrook Corn Carnival Celebration.
