The Newton School Board has approved plans for the building of a new baseball field for use by the district.

Earlier this week, the boards approved plans for the building of a three-point-one million dollar ball park, which would be completed by mid summer or early fall of 2023.

A committee was formed several months ago to develop specific plans for the project.

The new field would be built south of the existing softball field parking lot near H.A. Stadium.

Members of the committee recommended that the new field be built in close proximity to the current softball field with the possibility of new tennis courts being added in  the same area in the near future.

The initial plans also include having a concession stand, restrooms, storage or dressing rooms under the bleachers, multiple batting cages and a relatively tall fence surrounding the complex.

The Newton School Board indicated it was in favor of holding off on restrooms and the concession stand, even through some objections were presented a this week’s meeting.
