A Marshalltown man was recently sentenced to prison for his involvement in stealing an ATM machine from the Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson.
Fifty-two-year-old Richard Harris pleaded guilty to one count of First-Degree Theft, which is a Class C Felony.
As part of a plea agreement, Harris was sentenced to ten years in prison with credit being given for time previously served.
According to court documents, Harris, and another man, 39-year-old Jorge Palacios of California, stole an ATM machine from the casino on January 28th.
The men then loaded the ATM onto a truck that was reported as being stolen a short time earlier from nearby Boone County.
The stolen truck was located by law enforcement a short time later after the vehicle ran out of gas.
The two men were found in another vehicle the next day, along with a third man identified as 42-year-old Steven Curvin, who admitted to taking part in the crime, as well.
The ATM was later recovered by authorities inside Curvin’s business located in Story City.
In addition to the theft charge, Harris was also ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution, court costs, and attorney fees. As part of the plea agreement, the other charges against Harris, including two Class D felonies for Second Degree Theft and criminal mischief were dismissed.
