Two high school students from central Iowa have been selected to represent the State of Iowa at the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation in Washington D.C.
Josephine Kelly of Nevada, and Shea Boler of Johnston, have both been selected to represent the state at this year’s national A-L-A event.
The two young women are in the process of working on a bill that would give incentives to farmers for implementing riparian buffer strips in watersheds.
The bill will go through a similar process that any real-life bill would go through. The only difference is that the Iowa delegation will be defending their bill in front of girls from every other state across the U.S.
Both students will be serving as senators and will debate, amend, and pass or fail other bills.
Along with the amazing opportunity to be able to experience government first-hand the Iowa Delegation will get to tour Washington D.C., meet real world politicians, and connect with other young leaders from across the country.
Kelly and Boler both attended this year’s annual Iowa Legion sponsored Girls State that was held June 19-24 at Drake University in Des Moines.
