A DISCUSSION ON POTENTIAL USE OF AUTOMATED TRAFFIC EQUIPMENT WAS PART OF MONDAY’S MARSHALLTOWN CITY COUNCIL MEETING. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT ALREADY HAS A TRAILER WITH RADAR EQUIPMENT TO CHECK TRAFFIC SPEEDS. MOBILE EQUIPMENT AND POSSIBLY TRAFFIC CAMERAS WOULD BE IMPLEMENTED TO ASSIST OFFICERS. COUNCIL MEMBERS AND THE POLICE HAVE MET WITH ONE SUPPLIER ON THE EQUIPMENT. THE PUBLIC WOULD BE NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE OF THE EQUIPMENT GOES INTO PLACE. IT WAS NOTED THAT IF A PLAN IS APPROVED, IT WOULD TAKE SIX TO NINE MONTHS TO PUT INTO PLACE.
