There was a discussion at the recent City Council meeting, on Monday, about helping Riverside Cemetery with their Lake Woodmere situation. The ponds water is slowly evaporating and it would cost the cemetery lots of money to keep it filled as Marshalltown Water Works ended their free water agreement. The cemetery is looking for the cities help to dig a well. While some councilmen pushed back at the idea as the cemetery is privately owned, other councilmen thought that the cemetery is a great attraction for Marshalltown. Many people in the community think it is a city owned cemetery. With the derecho and tornado the cemetery has accrued lots of unexpected expenses recently and their wallets and donors wallets have been stretched thin. The city has agreed to help dig a well to maintain the pond up to $45,000. The well should not cost that much, it will all depend on where the well is dug exactly. This is a big help to our local Riverside Cemetery.
