For nearly 75 years Hogeland Auto Plaza has had a presence in Marshalltown, since 1948 to be exact. Starting out as just a body shop, the Hogeland family has seen the business grow into much more. Now Lonnie Hogeland Sr. is looking to expand again. Currently, the auto plaza consists of three main areas, an office building, a body shop and a service shop, but construction started on the largest building yet last week. A 60 by 80-foot expansion is being built directly west of the service shop, sporting four huge doors, and in addition to the workspace, a break room and a storage room will also be a part of the new structure. Lonnie Hogeland said some of his bigger trucks barely fit through the doors of the existing buildings, so the larger doors on the expansion (a pair of 24 by 14-foot doors, and a pair of 24 by 16-foot doors) will be a welcome addition to the business. Along with the construction on the new building, Lonnie also decided to tear out the old parking lot area and redo it to make it last.
