There have been multiple families who have relocated from Ukraine to Marshalltown through a program called Marshalltown for Ukraine who is working with a national program called United States for Ukraine.
That is City Councilman Mike Ladehoff who has been heading this project along with Bill Martin. They initially held a meeting to gauge the interest in the community to see if people would sponsor and help. There was a lot of interest in helping.
Mike’s group does not have 501(c)3 status so the churches are stepping in to help with donations. Marshalltown for Ukraine helps refugee families find a place to stay in Marshalltown and helps families get involved as well. His team works with multiple non-profits in the area to make it all happen.
Mike said all the sponsors and families are vetted through the national system before they are matched and relocated to Marshalltown. 4 families in total have come so far.
