A fire inside a grain elevator has been burning since before Christmas in a small town in Hardin County. The elevator at the Innovative Ag Services Co-op in Garden City feeds six silos, which are normally filled with grain. But those materials self-combusted around Dec. 21. That’s when the Radcliffe Fire Department was first called for assistance. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, the fire is only smoldering, but Radcliffe fire crews are on standby in case it flares up while crews from Gregerson Salvage remove the grain manually. Those who live in Garden City say they can see the fire glow at night and they first noticed the smell a few days before Christmas.
