The Center St. Viaduct has some bumps in the road, and the project to fix the road has had its own bumps. Heather Thomas, Public Works Director, followed up with the city council about a short term fix, as construction has been delayed to at least 2024 because of cost. She first explains what causes the bumps.
The vertical movement is what is causing that bump as your drive over the finger joints. Also there are fingers that are missing, which is causing an uneven ride. Heather then presented a new plan
This would cost the city less than $10,000 but would only be a temporary fix. This would give the City Council more time to pursue grants to make up the shortfall of cash. The Council voted 6-0 to pursue this temporary fix and look to secure grants to have construction start in 2025.
