The Marshalltown Police Department has had a K-9 Unit for about 30 years. 5 years ago both dogs retired and the department has only replaced one of the dogs. They are looking for community support
That was Police Chief Mike Tupper. He tells us that this program has largely been funded by private donations. The K-9 unit is usually tied to the drug task force, but the Chief mentions some other ways a K-9 helps our officers.
Chief Tupper says if anyone wants to support the K9 unit they can drop off a check at the police station, made out to the City of Marshalltown with K9 Unit on the memo line.
