Heather Thomas, Marshalltown Public Works Director, joined KFJB for Central Iowa Today recently, and she shared the thoughts behind reducing the speed limit on Lincoln Way.

With enough concerns, the city began to do their own research

The curves are built for 35 mph, and that is the current speed limit on the road.  Heather tells us that engineering suggest at least a 5mph buffer.  This has caused the city to talk about reducing the speed.  A traffic camera may be added on that stretch of road.

The decision to place a speed camera comes from the Police Department not Public Works.  Heather wants people to have a fair shake if the speed camera is put out there.
