M.I.C.A. or Mid Iowa Community Action, gave a presentation at the Marshalltown City Council Meeting on Monday.  Clarissa Thompson, the M.I.C.A. Executive Director, gave the presentation.

In Iowa there are 16 total Community Action Agencies.  M.I.C.A. covers Hardin, Marshall, Tama, Poweshiek, and Story Counties.

Clarissa says that 95% of the people served in Marshall County live in Marshalltown.

While that is looking at the federal poverty line, M.I.C.A. also looks at a basic needs budget.  M.I.C.A. finds that basic needs line for a family of 4 at roughly $62,000 household income.  M.I.C.A. has programs that helps families close that gap between the federal poverty line and the basic needs budget.
