Hoglan Elementary School held a “Penny War” last week to raise money for the K-9 Units at both the Sheriffs office and Police Department. The students and staff were able to raise $3,400 to support those causes. How the Penny War works is each class is working to have the most pennies by the end of the week. Pennies are considered positive points for a classroom while “silver”, other coins and dollar bills, are negative points. There is strategy, as you can drop silver into rival classrooms to try and take the lead. The students could easily wrap their minds around the fundraiser as some have connection to law enforcement but also, what kid doesn’t love a dog? Officers were able to stop by the school to encourage and thank the students and staff throughout last week.
