The Midnight Ballroom is looking to host a rodeo on May 20th with a concert. They applied for an alcohol license for May 20th which sparked a conversation at the city council meeting about noise. Chief Mike Tupper, with the Marshalltown Police, made a recommendation to end alcohol sales and music at 11:30pm.
Chief Tupper said that this would be his recommendation for all outdoor events moving forward. The current law allows citizens and organizations to apply for a noise permit, and it specifically calls for the races to end at 10:30pm. This brought Louisa Ortega with the Midnight Ballroom to come to the mic.
Louisa mentions that logistically for bands it would make it tough to hold their entire show in Marshalltown ending early. Which in turn would make it more difficult to get acts to come here. The Council voted 6 – 1, in favor of the alcohol license. There was no mention by council members of the recommendation from the Chief.
