Chess is the ultimate strategy game, every move means something, and Marshalltown Schools had their own special chess tournament on Monday. After crowning champions at each elementary school, Marshalltown School District then invited ‘Local Celebrities’ to play the champions. From the Superintendent, Dr. Theron Schutte, to the Chief of Police Mike Tupper, the students had some tough competition. Since the students were practiced, they were able to handle the tough competition. Kyle Martin, with KFJB, said the students impressed him and he was not prepared for the level of competition. Many of the students beat the local celebrities, but everyone had fun competing for an afternoon.
