The noise ordinance was discussed at Monday’s city council meeting in Marshalltown. This discussion item was on the agenda because at the previous meeting Police Chief Mike Tupper made the suggestion for the outdoor event on May 20th to end at 11:30 with their music and alcohol sales. Councilor Mike Ladehoff spoke first and disagreed with the Chief, mentioning that Marshalltown is trying to attract large groups and ending show early could keep some groups away. Mike suggested Midnight, different from Councilor Gary Thompson who believes if bars can serve booze till 2am, concerts and shows should have the same rules. Eventually the council voted on the motion on the agenda for an 11:30 cutoff time for outdoor events, and that failed 2 – 4.
