Project AWARE is in the middle of their trip to clean up some of Iowa’s Rivers. This year their focus is on the Iowa River and around 250 people of all ages pack their bags for a week long paddle down a river and clean it up along the way. Yesterday the group was at Riverview Park taking a break in the middle of the day. Their whole trip yesterday was 13 miles and ended their day in Tama County near McCoy Landing. Project AWARE has been going on for 19 years and they are close to cleaning out 1 million pounds of trash out of Iowa Rivers. Before they started this year they were just over 950,000 pounds. Where will the group go next year? That will be voted on by members at the end of this years trip. The group will continue to clean in the Iowa River through Friday and end at Koszta Access in Marengo.
