The Special Election date is set. There will be a special election in Marshalltown for the Franchise Fee. A Franchise Fee would be an additional 5% added to your gas and electric bill. Councilor Gabe Isom had a point of order last night about this fee.
Councilor Isom is referring to there already being 1% that they collect for Local Option Sales Tax, so the net increase on your bill would be 4%. There will be 3 different items people will vote on during the Special Election
That was tax payer Mark Eaton reminding citizens to get out and vote on September 12th as he led the charge to get the 250 necessary signatures to force a special election. Because the Ward 3 seat is vacant with Dex Walker leaving, that vacancy will also be on the September 12th special election.
