After the deadly crash last week, and the multiple crashes over the last few years, Iowa Department of Transportation and State Center Police are assessing the intersection on Highway 30. According to the State Center Police, majority of accidents that happen at the intersection of Highway 30 and 3rd Ave. SW are the driver’s fault. Speed or electronic devises, are not the issue. A few ideas thrown around were adding a flashing sign warning Eastbound and Westbound traffic of turning vehicles. Add sensor technology on both sides of the highway warning there’s a car coming. Another idea was to drop the speed limit on that stretch of road to 55 mph, similar to what happens in Nevada. Highway 30 is a state road, and it is ultimately left up to the state on what decision is made.
