At the Marshalltown City Council meeting, Chief Tupper, with the Police Department, was able to give the annual report on the department. A few things the Chief highlighted were the number of calls (28,000), recruitment/retention, and community relations.
When the Chief was asked how many openings there were, he said there are 5 Police Officer positions open right now. The Chief mentions that every community has a drug problem and that can lead to other crimes
While the Chief understands that it will take a multiprong approach, he mentions that MPACT is a step in the right direction. One of the final things the Chief mentions is that the department will create a strategic plan this fall. The idea will be to bring in community members to help with creating the plan.
