Yesterday was the Special Election for the Franchise Fee and Ward 3 City Council seat. The Franchise Fee had 3 total questions and all 3 franchise fee questions failed with roughly 77% No to 23% Yes. The Ward 3 seat was won by Greg Nichols, he earned roughly 63% of the vote. These are unofficial results posted to the Marshall County Elections website. This began awhile ago when the Council wanted to call for a special election on this issue in March, but needed a petition to do so. Next, the Council tried to change the ordinance with 3 passed readings, Al Hoop and Gary Thompson voting against it each time. Mark Eaton rallied the community and collected the signatures needed to force a special election, which was yesterday. 2300 people showed out for the Special election and voiced their opinions on the franchise fee.
