Another big topic of conversation last night was an update for what is going on at the Marshalltown Mall.  The owners of the Marshalltown Mall, Kohan Retail Investment Group has not paid their utilities bill so Alliant Energy shut off their power. John Hall, CEO and President of the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce, gave an update.

The external businesses are allowed to continue to operate during this time as the businesses pay their own utilities bill.  Some needed to rewire the electricals and water to keep up with fire code.  Hall mentions a key date coming up.

The impact of the utilities being shut off will hurt the mall in the immediate as some businesses are looking for other homes.  The hope for the long run, is to get an owner who will invest in our community and bring in the type of stores and entertainment we need.
