One topic discussed at length at the Marshalltown Community School Board meeting was the At-Risk report given by Shauna Smith, Director of Instruction, and Eric Goslinga, Principal at Marshalltown Learning Academy. Each year the school district gets money awarded based off of At-Risk students.
Smith says that 40% of the students in the Marshalltown Community School District are considered ‘At-Risk.’ Each school is tasked with tracking this on their own, Principal Goslinga talks through the process Marshalltown uses.
Goslinga and Smith shared that in 2025 the Marshalltown Community School District will receive roughly $1.6 million to help with At-Risk students, a similar amount as previous years. One chilling stat Goslinga shared is that Marshalltown has 100 students who qualify as homeless this school year.
