Yesterday was Iowa’s birthday, and the state turned 177-year-old!  Way back on December 28th, 1846, Iowa was admitted to the Union as the 29th state.  In that first year of existence, Iowa had a population of less than 100,000 people but now the state has over 3 million people.  As a state we have come a long way, not just with our population, but think of all the history that has been made in the state.  The first computer was invented at Iowa State University in 1942.  The infamous plane crash in 1959, to John Wayne and Captain Kirk being born here.  Iowa has made a mark on history books.
