Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland, Uvalde. We all know these cities from tragedies that have happened. When hearing about them, many think that this couldn’t happen in their community. Early this morning, in the small town Perry, IA, tragedy struck. At 7:37, Dallas County Sheriffs Office was made aware of a person with a gun in Perry Middle and High School. Officers were able to respond quickly, and in 7 minutes, they were at the school. At 8:25, the Middle School was evacuated. At 8:27, a 2nd team was able to clear the high school. At 8:32, the Perry Elementary School was evacuated. There was then an update given by Dallas County Sheriff, Adam Infante.
There were reports of multiple victims when authorities first arrived. No further details about victims have been given as authorities need time to notify families. It has been reported, by multiple sources including the AP, that the shooter is dead from a self inflicted gun shot wound. Iowa Department of Public Safety stated they will hold another press conference later today when they are able to release more information. You can find updates online at dps.iowa.gov
