There will be a Special Election on March 5th for the City of Marshalltown, it will be about LOST or Local Option Sales Tax. Joe Gaa, Marshalltown City Administrator, joined the KJFB line for Ask the Newsmakers last week to discuss LOST.
That 1% generates about $4 million per year for the City of Marshalltown. Gaa talks about how the voters voted to use LOST during the last special election on LOST.
The general obligation is good money to use to match grant funding and community betterment projects. A recent project was the sidewalk project and that money came from LOST or the council designation portion.
