Over this past weekend during the winter storms, a Marshall County Sheriff Deputy, the Marshall County 911 Communication Center, and other small town authorities worked together to help a pregnant woman give birth as they were unable to leave their farm house. Sargent Deputy Joseph McMillen stopped by the KFJB studio to share his story.
Sargent Deputy McMillen responds to this call around 11:15 on Saturday night.
Sargent Deputy McMillen says the house he was called to was miles out on a gravel road. After busting through a few snow drifts, the thought of walking did cross his mind.
Sargent Deputy McMillen then approaches a house with their front porch light on, and it did turn out to be the correct house. When he entered he could see the woman was in labor.
While they are working to get the woman comfortable Sargent Deputy McMillen could see tractor lights outside and was able to see and ambulance shortly behind. Paramedics came with the ambulance and they were able to assist with the birth. Once all heard the cries of the newborn baby, they finally all relaxed a bit. I will share my full conversation with Sargent Deputy Joseph McMillen on Friday during Central Iowa Today.
