Last night the Marshalltown City Council held a special meeting to discuss finances and the City Administrator position. On Monday last week, the council decided to table the idea of starting a search for a new city administrator. The council first had a motion to remove the tabled item on hiring a search firm. That passed 5 – 1 with only Barry Kell voting no. The council then moved to approve a contract with MGT to begin the search, this also passed. Councilor Greg Nichols suggested having them begin their search on April 1st, so the city can prepare exactly what we are looking for. Human Resources Director, Jill Petermeier stated that a recruiter could come to Marshalltown and visit with the council this month. MGT, formerly known as GovHR, will have a 14-week contract with multiple phases throughout the process.
