Last night the Marshalltown City Council discussed the funding request for a few different groups in our community.  One group was the Marshalltown Municipal Band, who had been receiving $8,000 annually through a levy.  The state has removed the ability to use that levy leaving the city to find a way to come up with that money.  Jody Brintnall with the municipal band talks about the success last year.

Brintnall shares that the band plays in the 13th street district over the summer each Thursday.  After the band asked for the money, City Councilor Gary Thompson said this.

The total budget for the band annually is roughly $11,000.  Councilor Mark Mitchell also spoke up saying he would help fundraise.  The Council voted 4 – 3 in favor of NOT funding the band in fiscal year 2025.
