There has been a lot of talk about LOST, Local Option Sales Tax, recently. That is due to a special election coming up on March 5th. LOST is a 1% sales tax on items bought in town. Every 25 years communities need to review how LOST is used. Currently roughly 78% of LOST dollars are used for property tax relief and roughly 22% is used for a Council Designated Fund. The city is hosting an information session on LOST coming up on Saturday February 17th. This event will take place at the Marshalltown Public Library from 9am – 10. It is an information session along with a Question and Answer session at the end. Coffee and Donuts will be provided, it is free to attend and open to anyone in the public.
