It is official, Fire Chief Dave Rierson has finished his last day in the Marshalltown Fire Department. Chief Rierson will be on vacation until his final official last day on March 21st, which will end his 9.5 year career with the Marshalltown Fire Department. Rierson has had a long career in firefighting, starting his career down in Kansas City, and will return to Kansas City with his wife once his house here is sold. Getting to know Chief Rierson over the last 2 years, he is not one to accept awards personally, he usually deflects to his team or department. Rierson’s department shined bright during the tornado and derecho that hit the Marshalltown Community. Another stamp on Rierson’s record is the Police and Fire building. The building shows 2 departments working together, which starts with leadership at the top. From the Deputy Fire Chief, to your average citizen, the community respected Chief Rierson and we will wish him the best on retirement.
