The Marshalltown Police Department and YSS has partnered up for a program called MPACT, Marshalltown Police and Community Team. This program has helped officers and the community respond to calls that deal with more social and mental health issues. David Hicks, YSS Executive Director, had a big announcement this week.
The advocates are working 6 nights a week from 2pm – 12Midnight. Hicks says for now they are working together to help train, but once the summer hits they will expand to 7 nights a week. To have 24/7 coverage with MPACT, the program would need more advocates. Hicks gives an example of how MPACT helps the community
This program has been a net positive for the city as it has save Police Officers time, cut down on arrests and court time, and has kept people from spending time in jail.
