The Monday City Council Meeting in Marshalltown had a full room, and many people were there because the City Council was approving the appointment of Tonya Gaffney to the Library Board of Trustees.  Library Board members are appointed by the mayor then approved by the City Council.  This topic had some excitement because there has been discussions at the MPL about adding two periodicals, the Epoch Times and American Rifleman.  Sarah Rosenblum, Marshalltown Library Director, addresses this issue.

Through that review process, even though the publications have been offered to the library for free, the library board denied the addition of the 2 publications. She talks about some of the guidelines that they follow.

The 2 publications were not denied due to the cost, they were denied because the board decided those publications would not be a good fit in our library.  There are plenty of magazines and books about firearms, and 4 publications for local and national news.
