April 1st began the Open Burn Ordinance in the city of Marshalltown, this allows people to burn some of the brush in their yards.  Acting Fire Chief, Christopher Cross, stopped by the KFJB studio to give some safety tips for any open burning this spring and summer.

Another rule is keeping anything burning at least 15 feet from a structure if it is in a container, or 50 feet from a structure without a container.  This Burn Ordinance is different than having a recreational fire.

Recreational fires need to be out by 2am per the city ordinance.  Fire pits in yards and containers are ok for recreational fires.
