At approximately 8:52 this morning, the Marshalltown Community School District was notified of a threatening Social Media post. Out of an abundance of caution and in collaboration with the Marshalltown Police Department, the decision was made to shelter in place. According to Chief Tupper, this protocol was not a lockdown, students were still confined to their current room. Around 9:55am law enforcement informed the school district that the shelter in place procedures could be lifted. Law enforcement has taken over the situation and will continue to investigate. At approximately 8:52 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, the district was notified of a threatening social media post towards Marshalltown High School. In collaboration with local law enforcement, a decision was made to use our shelter in place protocol to ensure the safety of students and staff while police investigated.
At approximately 9:55 a.m., law enforcement informed us shelter in place procedures could be lifted. Law enforcement has taken the situation into their own hands and are continuing their investigation. Although we were not advised of an imminent threat, the decision to shelter in place was made out of an abundance of caution for the safety of students and staff. Marshalltown Community School District extends our sincere appreciation for the trust and patience shown by everyone involved. The safety of our students remains our top priority, and everyone in our schools prioritizes vigilance in ensuring their well-being.”
