The Marshalltown Police Department investigated 74 crimes related to sexual abuse in 2023, and so far in 2024 they have investigated 15 cases.  Yesterday Detective Kraig Lageschulte, with the MPD, was the guest for Central Iowa Today, and he gives some statistics about sexual abuse.

Detective Lageschulte says that this crime is under reported, which means there are people in our community suffering in silence.

The Statute of Limitations for a Sex Abuse crime is unlimited for any victim under the age of 18.  Once the victim turns 18, the statute of limitations depends on the severity of the crime.  Access is a nonprofit group in town to help anyone who has been a victim of abuse or assault.  The best place to go to learn more is assaultcarecenter.org
