The Marshall County Emergency Management has been pushing out the message that the new tornado sirens are not working.  These are the sirens that are being installed this spring, all the old sirens are still in working order.

That is Marshall County Emergency Management Coordinator, Kim Elder, and she says that backbone is also installed into her office.  The backbone allows the communication center to activate the sirens.  Elder says the county received the sirens over the winter, but they could not be installed until the spring.  The poles are set, they are just waiting on one step

The new sirens are close to being complete a lot of them are finalizing that final step of getting the electricity hooked up.  The sirens are great for outdoor warnings, but people may not hear them inside buildings.  Alert Iowa is another great resource to get weather alerts and warnings.  Listen to my full conversation with Elder under ‘Zach Chats’ or click here
