This week is National Police Week, which is celebrated each year during the week of May 15th, as May 15th is National Police Officer Day. Marshall County Sheriff, Joel Phillips, talks about why we celebrate this week.
Sheriff Phillips says President Kennedy signed the decree on in 1962 to honor the men and women who risk their lives daily to keep our communities safe. Police Officers across the nation honor their fallen brothers and sisters.
So far this year, 56 officers have been killed in the line of duty across the Nation. Sheriff Phillips mentions the last death at the Sheriffs Office of someone in the line of duty was a jailer in 1978, Harry Davis.
