Today starts the Special Olympics State competition over in Ames at Hilton Coliseum.  Jenni Hart is the Delegation Manager for the Special Olympics in our community, and she says that there are athletes competing Ames.

All the athletes that wanted to participate in cycling are allowed to.  Swimming and Track and Field, athletes have to win a blue ribbon at a District Meet.

Hart says that Special Olympics is a year round program and people can learn more online.

The Special Olympics Summer Games will start with a torch run from Des Moines to Ames and Hilton Coliseum today.
