Early Monday morning, the Marshalltown Fire Department were called to 2 separate fires. The first fire happened around 12:20am in the 200 block of N 3rd Ave. on a detached garage. Once the fire department arrived on scene, they found the small 2 stall garage fully engulfed in flames. The structure appeared to have collapsed before the department arrived. The fire was reported by multiple people who passed by. The investigation into how the fire started is on-going. Home owners claim nothing was in the garage and the building did not have an electrical connection.
The Marshalltown Fire Department was then called to a 2nd fire Monday morning around 3:25am in the 500 block of W Linn Street. The department found a working fire in the residence that was quickly brought under control with 2 hose lines. The department found that the house was unoccupied at the time and the fire originated from the kitchen. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. In both cases the department was on scene for approximately an hour.
