A concerned patron of the Marshalltown Library has been trying to get 2 different publications onto the library shelves, The American Rifleman and Epoch Times. According to the Department of Justice, the CFO of the Epoch Times, known as “Bill” Guan, has been arrested due to participating in a transnational scheme to launder approximately $67 million of illegally obtained funds to benefit himself and the media company.
When banks raised questions about the funds, Guan allegedly lied repeatedly and falsely claimed that the funds came from legitimate donations to the media company. The funds were fraudulently obtained unemployment insurance benefits and other crime proceeds. During the time of the money laundering, the media company, Epoch Times, increased their annual revenue by 410%, from $15 million to $62 million.
