Heart of Iowa is adding some fiber optic lines across town, so people may see some digging around town.  There are also 2 new internet providers adding their own fiber optic lines, ImOn Communications and Metronet.  Heather Thomas, Marshalltown Public Works Director, shares some tips for homeowners to protect their property.

If there are people burying utilities on your property and they are not supposed to be there, you are asked to call the city.  She shares one way homeowners can protect themselves.

This would give you proof if any damage happens to your sidewalk or driveway.  Thomas says some of the internet companies are getting 10,000 – 30,000 feet of line put in per day.
