At the beginning of the new school year, schools will practice their emergency drills like a fire drill. Students are in a new classroom and could be in a new part of a building or a new building all together. This is a great time as a family to review your own safety plan.
That is Marshalltown’s Interim Fire Chief, Christopher Cross. He says having a meeting location outside the house is vital. That can expedite the process once authorities arrive to help.
Authorities can get right to business of why they are there if everyone is accounted for. That meeting spot could be a tree in the front/backyard, a neighbor’s bush or even a trusted neighbors house.
