Miller Middle School administration released a letter to parents and guardians yesterday about students discussing potential violence at the school.  Through an investigation, the school district found the threat to be non-credible, and appropriate disciplinary action has been taken.  No weapons were involved, and at no point were students or staff in immediate danger.  The school was never placed on a lockdown.

The school has passed over their information to law enforcement who is handling the matter for further review.  There have been 11 arrests across the state of Iowa since school started relating to threats made against schools.  A student in western Iowa is facing threats of terrorism charges.

Dear Miller Middle School Parents/Guardians,

We are writing to provide accurate information and help prevent rumors. Recently, we were made aware of a conversation between students that contained a theme of violence. Through our investigation it was determined to be non-credible; appropriate disciplinary action has been taken. There were no weapons involved, and at no point were students in immediate danger. The school was not placed on lockdown.

Following today’s investigation, law enforcement is handling the matter for further review. We believe there is no ongoing threat to our students.

We take any kind of threat very seriously, especially when it disrupts the school day and requires significant effort to ensure the safety of students and staff. Our top priority is always to maintain a safe environment for everyone.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Miller at 641.754.1110. Thank you for your understanding as we address the situation today.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kristyn Kell
