Recently there have been some common scams in Central Iowa and the Marshalltown Police Department does not want anyone to fall for them.  The first one mentioned is the Publishers Clearing House.

That is Police Chief Mike Tupper, who warns the public that even if you pay the taxes and fees, that big check won’t be coming.  If it sounds too good to be true, it is.  Another easy to spot scam is people asking for gift cards.  He mentions 1 other scam.

If you are not allowed to talk about a situation with other family members, that is a sign that it is a scam.  Chief Tupper mentions 1 final scam with a local twist.

This scam also followed up with a document.  Again, this is not how law enforcement works nor the court system.  Chief Tupper asks that if you receive any scam phone calls that you hang up and report the call to the Police Department.
